In the landscape of melodic death metal, Innersphere's latest single "The Trident is Burning" stands as a poignant and heartfelt reaction to the chaos and turmoil engulfing the world. Set to be a part of their upcoming album "In the Shadow of the Sun," due for release in March 2024 under Smile Music Records, this track transcends mere musical boundaries, offering a deep reflection on current global conflicts, notably the Ukraine crisis, and serving as an elegy for the decline of reason and humanity.

Mira Litomericky, the frontman of Innersphere, delves into the emotional and creative process that birthed "The Trident is Burning." Deeply impacted by the unfolding events in Ukraine, Litomericky found himself compelled to express his feelings through music. "It was something kind of expected and many hints were around that something like this could possibly happen. But it was a really heartbreaking feeling," he remarks. Written on 25th February 2022, the song emerged as a spontaneous outpouring of emotion. After returning from work, Litomericky picked up his guitar and began translating his thoughts and feelings into music.

The song's composition mirrors this emotional rollercoaster. It opens with a celebratory melody, moving into a heavy, rhythmic section, symbolizing the relentless march of conflict. The chorus, influenced by East European choirs, brings an epic yet sorrowful vibe, leading to a riff that mimics the chaos of battle. The piece concludes with a heavier rendition of the initial melody, underscored by a potent message: "Stop the War!".

Discussing the song's influence on the album "In the Shadow of the Sun," Litomericky highlights its distinct nature. While the album predominantly explores fantasy themes and metaphorical narratives of personal experiences, "The Trident is Burning" uniquely responds to a real-world crisis. Nevertheless, the album is set to maintain a progressive, melancholic tone, incorporating elements like clean choirs and mellotron in other tracks.

Innersphere's sound in "The Trident is Burning" showcases a rich tapestry of influences, from At the Gates, Amorphis, Gojira, to Ulver, Leprous, and Porcupine Tree. Litomericky emphasizes that these influences subtly inform their music-making process, with the primary focus being the creation of a song that resonates for its flow, atmosphere, and spirit. The album's sound, particularly the guitar work, is inspired by Opeth's "Watershed," yet it carries a unique identity shaped by Innersphere's distinctive playstyle and songwriting.

Originating from the Czech Republic, Innersphere comprises Mira Litomericky (vocal, guitar), Lukas Mai (guitar), Marek Hubocky (backing vocal, bass guitar), and Filip Wintr (drums). The release of "The Trident is Burning" on 08 December 2023 marks the first of three singles leading up to the album, accompanied by a music video shot at the Brutal Assault festival in 2023, under the direction of Marek Frodys Pytlík.

Their ability to amalgamate a plethora of influences into a distinctive sound, while maintaining a significant thematic resonance, positions them uniquely in the melodic death metal scene.
