You get tuba setting a stubborn pulse, harmonica in sharp relief, slide guitar scuffing the edges, and a lived-in lead vocal that carries the stories rather than overselling them. It’s early blues, rags, gospel and old evergreens, but played with the kind of grip that comes from hours in a rehearsal room, not a click track.
Since settling on this line-up in May 2022, the Swedish outfit have built their case on stage, winning the Dusty Road Blues Challenge on originality, dynamics and presence. That chemistry translates to tape. The record moves from barroom stomp to after-hours hush without losing focus, prioritising feel and melody over polish. For a debut full-length, it’s remarkably sure-footed: a clear picture of who The Family Jukebox are, and why these songs deserve to be heard now.
