Canadian atmospheric and melodic black metal band ARCTOS will release their new album "A Path Apart" on November 6th, 2026 through Northern Silence Productions. The album will be available digitally, on CD and LP.
"A Path Apart" explores disillusionment, loss, perseverance and the strength of individuality. Much of the album follows a connected journey, beginning from the perspective of zealous worship, moving through the realisation that this existence is hollow, and eventually arriving at the decision to break away and seek another path.
The album was designed to be heard as a whole, with the dynamics of the songs and interludes carrying that story forward while leaving space for reflection. Compared with Beyond the Grasp of Mortal Hands, the material was written over a much shorter period, something the band feel helped give the new record a more cohesive sound.
Its creation also coincided with a period of considerable change for the members of ARCTOS. Covid isolation, new fatherhood, career changes and their drummer moving to Iceland all affected the writing process. According to the band, becoming more self-reliant both personally and musically helped them better understand the voice of ARCTOS, resulting in a record they describe as diverse and dynamic while remaining focused.
"A Path Apart" was recorded over two years and across several countries. Drums were recorded in Iceland by Helgi Durhuus at Stúdíó Helvíti in spring 2024. Bass and vocals were recorded between 2024 and 2025 at Oracle Studios with Diego Fernandez in Canada, while guitars and additional vocals were recorded at the Frostbitten Basement Cave in Canada. Mixing and mastering were handled by Juho Räihä at Soundspiral Audio in Finland in 2026.
