IV Sigillo emerged at the end of 2021 from the ashes of Italian doom metal veterans Thunderstorm. Bassist Omar Roncalli and drummer Attilio Coldani joined forces with vocalist Emiliano Cioffi, known for his work with Epitaph and All Souls' Day, while guitarist Dario Vicariotto completed the line-up, bringing experience from speed metal act MenacE.
Spread across northern Italy, the four musicians came together around a shared passion for traditional doom metal and the darker side of classic heavy metal. Most of the material began with bass lines and keyboard ideas developed by Roncalli before being shaped by the rest of the band into fully realised songs.
Their debut album, Quarto Sigillo, stands firmly within the tradition of the Italian dark sound, combining doom metal, heavy metal and occult atmospheres. The album balances weight and melody while giving unusual prominence to the bass guitar, creating a sound that feels both familiar and distinct. Subtle keyboards add depth to the arrangements, while Emiliano Cioffi's dramatic vocal performance brings a strong personality to the songs.
Across nine tracks, Quarto Sigillo explores sinister atmospheres, mystery and apocalyptic themes. The album rewards repeated listening, revealing new layers and details with each spin while remaining rooted in the classic spirit of doom metal.
The album was recorded at Elfo Studio Recording by Daniele Mandelli, mixed by Luigi Stefanini at New Sin Recording Studio and mastered in May 2024 at Newsin Studio.
