[news] Kekal return after 4 years with new single “See The Reapers Coming”

Indonesia’s avant-garde/experimental metal act Kekal has returned with its first new song in four years. Titled “See The Reapers Coming”, the track is already available on Bandcamp as a free download or name-your-price release. A lyric video is also now online.
Musically, “See The Reapers Coming” reconnects with the energy of Kekal’s 1998 debut Beyond The Glimpse Of Dreams, bringing in 80s-inspired metal riffs while keeping the band’s more recent taste for unpredictability intact. The song leans into a more organic approach, with greater emphasis on guitars, fewer synthesizers, and a stronger focus on rock and metal than electronic elements.
The track also offers an early look at Kanata, the upcoming full-length album currently in the works. The song’s message is central to its release, and the lyric video arrives with that intent firmly in place.
Formed in 1995, Kekal began as a more straightforward extreme metal band before gradually expanding into a broader and more experimental body of work. Over the years, Kekal became one of the first Indonesian metal acts to gain international exposure through releases in both North America and Europe, and in 2004 became the first band from Indonesia to tour Europe, with live dates in Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
Since 2009, Kekal has continued outside the framework of a fixed official lineup, allowing the project to evolve freely while maintaining its distinct identity. That independence has remained a defining part of its path, both musically and artistically.
