AFRICA.ROCKS launches

African music has shaped the world’s sound for generations, and heavy music is no exception. Across the continent, rock and metal scenes have been growing louder, sharper, and more original, yet they remain chronically under-documented in international coverage. AFRICA.ROCKS is here to change that.

AFRICA.ROCKS is the only site covering African rock and metal exclusively, every day. It publishes news, interviews, features, and reviews from across the continent, built to put Africa’s heavy music in front of the global audience it deserves.

"We all carry a little bit of Africa within us", says founder and editor Joel Costa, who has written for - and led - titles including Metal Hammer Portugal, Terrorizer, Ultraje, Guitarrista, and Bass Empire. "The story of humanity is shaped by encounters and diasporas that carried people, languages, and rhythms from the mother continent to the rest of the world. Music travelled alongside that human journey, reinventing itself in new places while creating a global language that came before writing, architecture, and civilisation as we know it. From bone flutes and skin drums used in ritual celebrations to the blues that would later give birth to rock, Africa gave us the genetic code of what it means to be human and the foundations of music, dance, and the story of humankind."

AFRICA.ROCKS is live at https://africa.rocks/. Bookmark it, follow it, and keep it in your rotation. If you care about heavy music, this is one part of the map you shouldn’t miss.
