[news] OUT NOW! MARELL Release New EP “Anywhere (some place else)”

French trio Marell return with their second EP Anywhere (some place else), with a vinyl edition to follow later in the month via Vox Project in co-production with Araki Records, Cœur sur Toi Store and Urgence Disk. Known for blending post-hardcore, trip-hop and electronic textures, Marell continue to refine their dynamic, ever-shifting sound.

Following their debut “Places That We Know” in 2023, Marell’s new EP signals a change in their mode of expression: sharper, more dynamic, yet still carrying the DIY ethos that marks their production and recording.

The six tracks of “Anywhere (some place else)” explore contrasts and extremes — from intimate guitar-vocal moments to screamo climaxes, from maximalist post-rock layers to trip-hop minimalism. It is a journey that feels like running through the mist, balancing urgency and fragility, constantly playing with the edge of collapse.

Influenced by acts such as Fontaines DC, Lysistrata, Archive, Birds in Row and Portishead, Marell build songs that shift between shoegaze haze, post-punk urgency and noise eruptions, underlined by lo-fi vocals sung or screamed in English. Lyrically, the EP reflects on silence, pain, urgency and the fever of the times.

“Anywhere (some place else)” was recorded by Quentin Biasucci and Pascal Lengagne, mixed by Clément Bouyer and mastered by Olivier Cussac. The artwork was created by Kim Schädlich – Pátio, with design by Virginie Contier.
