Formed in 2024, German death metal band SKULLHAMMER emerged with one clear goal: to play uncompromising old-school death metal built for the pit. Drawing influence from bands such as Bolt Thrower, Obituary, Dying Fetus and Morbid Angel, the band combine heavy riffing, aggressive vocals and darker atmospheric sections with a strong narrative concept running through the release.
Their debut EP, Where Skulls Pile High, was released on January 16th, 2026 through a combination of self-release and underground tape and vinyl editions. The record includes six songs alongside an intro and interlude, balancing direct death metal aggression with a darker fantasy setting centred around the mythical Skullhammer, a cursed parasitic weapon that corrupts whoever wields it.
The story follows the rise and downfall of the warlord Vrakh, whose connection to the Skullhammer gradually pushes him toward violence, bloodlust and destruction. Each track works both as an individual song and as part of a larger interconnected narrative, with additional short stories written by vocalist Kevin Otto expanding the world behind the EP.
The EP was self-recorded, while mixing and mastering were handled by Andy Posdziech, known for his work with Kreator, Nasty and Any Given Day.
