Portuguese modern metallers Above the Ocean release new single "Worthless"

Portuguese modern metal band Above the Ocean released their new single "Worthless" on September 18th, 2026. The self-released track is available now digitally.

"Worthless" is the band's heaviest and most progressive track to date. Unlike previous single "Thank You", which gradually built from its intro, the new song gets straight to the point with a powerful drum fill before moving into fast verses filled with heavy riffs, blast beats and harsh screams. The chorus shifts into a larger melodic section while keeping the intensity intact.

Lyrically, the song focuses on self-worth, resilience and overcoming inner struggles. Those themes also connect "Worthless" to the wider direction of Above the Ocean's upcoming debut album, where mental health will appear as a recurring subject.

"Despite all the screaming and aggressiveness, this is a very positive and hopeful song", the band explain. "It's about not giving in to your struggles and still getting up each day." The track reaches its climax with vocalist José Saruga screaming the words "You are enough."

The accompanying music video was directed by Diogo Fragoso, who previously worked with the band on "Therapy" and "Love Song (For the Broken)". This time, the band opted for a more direct performance-focused approach centred on the energy of the song.
