"Downfall" is a musical journey into the human condition, examining themes of life, death, and the struggles in between. Ethereal’s sound blends heavy riffs, melancholic melodies, and introspective lyrics, showcasing the band’s evolving artistry. Ethereal has already seen significant engagement on Spotify, with over 39K streams across 89 countries.
Formed in 1997 by Hugo Soares, Ethereal has quietly carved its place within the Portuguese metal scene. By 1998, with its lineup complete, the band began performing live, culminating in a standout victory at the 2nd National Modern Music Festival of Mondim de Basto. Their debut EP, "Shades of Sadness" (1999), was an early step that hinted at their potential and garnered attention as a promising revelation in Portuguese metal.
In 2003, Ethereal released their first full-length album, "The Dreams of Yearning", through Recital Records, showcasing their ability to merge heaviness with emotive and atmospheric elements. The follow-up album, "The Towers of Isolation" (2006), built on this foundation and was supported by an ambitious Iberian tour. However, in 2008, the band went on hiatus, with its members branching out into other creative endeavors.
During this period, Ethereal’s musicians contributed to notable projects such as Before the Rain, Collapse of Light, and Ava Inferi, collaborating with artists from bands like Shape of Despair, Mayhem, and Morgion. After a 13-year hiatus, Ethereal reunited in 2021 with its original lineup, joined by longtime collaborator Pedro Arsénio on guitar, signaling a fresh chapter in their journey.
The new album was recorded and mixed between 2023 and 2024 by Wilson Silva (More Than a Thousand, The Last Internationale) WRecords Studios.
