Upon Shadows presents “The Great Shadow” the first single from the upcoming album "Golden Flame"

Dark metal duo Upon Shadows released their new single, “The Great Shadow”, on October 18th, 2026. The song is the first glimpse of Golden Flame, their upcoming studio album, due in 2027.

“The Great Shadow is about the awakening of consciousness and, with it, the inevitable rebellion; the pursuit of the most arcane and primordial forms of knowledge, from a distinctly Luciferian perspective, without neglecting the poetic dimension that constitutes a large part of the heart of Upon Shadows.
Musically, it is pure darkness: dense, unpretentious, and true to our style.”

“The Great Shadow” introduces a new chapter for Upon Shadows, combining the duo’s characteristic darkness with a dense and immersive atmosphere. The track also introduces several of the ideas that will run through Golden Flame, including the pursuit of knowledge, the awakening of consciousness, rebellion and transformation.

While the full concept behind the album remains under wraps, “The Great Shadow” offers an early look at a record where symbolism, mythology and philosophical ideas will once again play an important role.

“The Great Shadow” was composed by Tamara Picardo, who also handled recording and mixing. Natalia Arocena recorded the bass, while mastering was handled by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden.

Founded in Montevideo in 2002 by Tamara Picardo and Natalia Arocena, Upon Shadows create dark metal shaped by atmospheric, experimental and ambient elements. Across more than two decades, their work has explored subjects including darkness, the human condition, knowledge and symbolism.

Golden Flame will be released in 2027.
