Ashbringer have just reissued their debut album, "Vacant", now remastered and released digitally on April 8 to mark its 10th birthday. Originally self-released in 2015 by then 18-year-old Nick Stanger, the album marked the beginning of what would later become one of the most emotionally driven projects in the atmospheric black metal underground.
This new 2025 remaster revisits the six-track debut with clarity and warmth, featuring a cleaner low end, improved midrange, and far less compression than the original version. First recorded and mixed in Nick’s childhood home between 2013 and 2015, Vacant has been remastered this year at his own Sound of the Northwoods studio.
Drawing inspiration from bands like Agalloch, Alcest, and Wolves in the Throne Room, Vacant blends harsh soundscapes with ambient depth in a way that still feels personal and raw, even nearly two decades on. It’s a return to Ashbringer’s earliest chapter, now finally heard the way it was meant to be.
